Ethel Talbot

Ethel Mary Talbot, the daughter of Hugh Talbot and Margaret Ellen Turrell, was a prolific writer of school, adventure and Girl Guide stories for children. Born in Sutton Coldfield on 26 May 1880, she came from a large family, having at least eight sisters and one brother. She was brought up Plymouth Brethren. Although as an adult she chose to leave, her religious upbringing does show its influence in her writing. Talbot spent much of her adult life in Edinburgh, where she lived for at least some of the time with friend and fellow writer E M de Foubert. Later she relocated to London, where she died on 26 May 1944.
